The Diversity of the Appalachian Trail

During the summer of 2022, Brad Gibson hiked the 2194 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 111 days. The trail crossed fourteen states, starting at Springer Mountain, Georgia and concluded at Mount Katahdin in Maine. While it could be difficult to put in words, Brad captured the experience with hours of video footage and over two thousand photos. One of the themes of Brad’s photography was trail diversity. A “dirt” path that runs over two thousand miles is bound to change in shape, texture, and color over time. These photos represent some of the trail diversity.

Two Million Steps Towards Clarity

  • Brad sets out to find out what would happen if he walked 1,000 miles in three months. This one-man show details lessons learned long distance hiking, specifically, South Dakota’s Centennial Trail. While on the trail in May of 2019, Brad was caught in a record-breaking snow storm dropping 25 inches of snow. While hiking Brad has experience water poisoning, waking up next to a herd of bison, and he has been charged by a bear. All of which pale in comparison to his first attempt at the Centennial Trail.

The Benefits and Methods of Humor in the Classroom

  • Brad has compiled data from over thirty peer-reviewed articles which demonstrate the benefits and styles of humor that teachers can use in a classroom to increase teaching effectiveness and retention of subject matter materials. In addition to presenting the research, Brad uses visual aids, anecdotes, and personal experiences (successes and failures) to help sell the case for teachers to consider the use of humor in the classroom. Brad also provides examples of the various styles and methods which can be individualized for a variety of teaching styles and personalities.
